Sudden Death of my Father: Hospital negligence killed him
My father's sudden death on 24th October 2001 has hurt me and my family thorough.
My mother who couldn't slept for more then 10 nights have no more tears to flow. Me, My sisters and brothers are hardly out of shock.
I have never ever thought that there is something called Death! This is the first death in our family (or even in relatives) since I was born therefore this is very hard to handle.
We never took any decision since he handled everything. We are still shocked how we will manage to live without him.

His Struggle for life for 11 days: The Story of negligence
1) It was Sunday, 14th October 2001, we were enjoying the family party with all our close relatives. We enjoyed the day very much. Unknown about the coming cyclone. The party went on up to late night. The next morning, my father went to my sister's home in New Seelampur. At 11:00 morning, when he was coming back, he came at bus stop and tried to catch a bus (Hauj Khas to Nand Nagri #335). When he put his right feet on the bus door to get into the bus, the driver suddenly accelerated the bus. He hold the handrail to make balance and tried to pull the other leg into the door, immediately before he could manage his balance, the driver pushed the brakes with his full power and the bus got a big shock. My father, whose one feet was inside the bus and one was out, couldn't bare the shock and fallen down so his right leg went under the rear tire. The driver didn't stop to see what has happened and accelerated the bus crushing his leg by the rear tire of the bus. When the crowed shouted - "Man under the bus, man under the bus", then the driver stopped and ran away. My father was shouting for help, the blood was all over the road but the people, there was no any Human in the crowed. Each and every one was just watching the blood flowing. None of them heard the help appeal of my father. A merely 22 year old boy Naveen who was traveling in the bus coming behind, jumped out and hold the hand of my father urging for help. He asked other people for help but no one came ahead. He asked Auto rickshaw drivers to carry him to a hospital but no one was ready to do this. All the drivers said "No! who will wash out the blood later?". Fortunately a driver came and said "Ok, lets go". They both were the only human in the crowd of bastards. they any how put my father into the rickshaw and driven to the nearly hospital Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital. This was the most unfortunate moment for my father that he was being carried to this hospital. Our family or relatives were still unknown to what was happening.
2) When they reached hospital, they carried him to the casualty of the hospital. Naveen then called me at my home and told me about the incident. I immediately came to the hospital and I couldn't believe what I saw there. There was no skin on the right leg of my father. Everything below the knee and above the ankle was open. I can see bones, muscles and nerves of the leg. The left feet was skinless and all the bones of toe and fingers were visible. And a lot of blood. All the clothes were red with blood. I just couldn't believe that it is being happening with my very own father! I just couldn't stop myself to cry but Naveen came to me and asked "Are you with him?", I said "I am his son. What happened? how this was done? what...?" He said "This is not the time for such questions, Go tell your other relatives about this so they could bring money for treatment". Unfortunately my elder brother took my mobile phone the same morning and went out of Delhi so I ran toward a PCO and then I made call to my sister's home but she has already been called from my home. I then called at home and asked to bring money. Then I ran back into the casualty where doctor were preparing to give my father a painkiller medicine "Voveran" injection. I said "My father is allergenic to NSAIDs". Doctor said "What?", "He is allergenic to NSAIDs, excluding..." I said. Doctor asked "Excluding what?" "Excluding Nimesulide" I replied. Doctor asked nurse to not to give Voveran which contents Diclofenac Sodium which is a member of NSAID family. Thanks to my little knowledge about medicines. My father was itching with pain. Blood was continuously flowing. He asked me to speak Kalma. I said "Don't talk like that, You will be OK, Doctor is treating you!". Then my sister came and shocked to see my father. Two doctors were washing the bones and flesh of his right leg with saline and Betadine. Then they just put pads and wrapped the leg with a bandage. Since my father had an angina (Heart's) attack in 1972, he was feeling heart problem and he asked doctor to check the heart. I told the doctor about the angina attack so doctor called ECG expert to take an ECG. the doctor gave me a slip and asked me to bring some medicines. I ran out and searched any medicine store. I found a medicine store a little away from the hospital. There I bought tablet "Deplatt" and ran into the casualty of hospital. Doctor didn't asked me about the medicine, instead he said "Go take him to X-Ray room and take a few x-rays. take this slip. now go." I asked to put a little medicine on the large open wound on the left feet (I was then unknown to the more wounds on the back left leg). The doctor said "No no, it's okay, now go take him into the x-ray room". I urged "Please doctor, the blood is being flowed, please make some bandages, please, please." Then doctor called a PG student and asked him to put some pad on the wound. The PG then kept a few pads on the wound but neither he applied any antiseptic on the wound nor any medicine (like Betadine). Me and the father-in-law of my sister who just had joined us, pulled the stretcher to the X-ray room. there was a huge crowed before the X-Ray room. The blood was on his way of flowing. we waited long and when we entered into the room, the x-ray technician asked us to put the leg twisted. I said "How can we twist the leg when there is no skin on the leg and the bones are crushed and the muscles are open?". The technician said "This is not my matter. You have to twist it as I said!" I urged him to turn his X-ray machine to the appropriate angle but he said "My machine is fixed, do as I say!" My father was crying with pain. He could not bare the touch on the feet but we anyhow twisted the leg and then X-Rays were made. My father was a really hard man who bare all this. We pulled the stretcher back to the casualty hoping that now doctors will treat him properly. But when we came back, the doctor ordered us to take our patient to the Orthopedic emergency room #26. We thought that they will make appropriate treatment and operate on my father. we pulled the stretcher to room 26 hoping for the better treatment of him.
3) We rushed to the room #26. There doctor told us to put the patient on the bed. We said "How is it just possible? He can not even move!". Doctor said "You must transfer the patient to the bed by yourself. We just can't treat the patient on the stretcher". What else we can do instead as doctor said? We hardly transferred my father to the bed. My father was crying with pain and the blood was continued flowing. Doctor examined him and said "There will be blood requirements. Go donate your blood to the blood bank and get blood for him. I am giving you the slip for three units of blood. Now go!". My elder brother Taiyab took the slip and ran to the blood bank. He there gave the slip to the nurse in blood bank and she told him to wait along with other people. After half an hour when he didn't returned, doctor called me and asked "What happened? where is blood?" I told him about the crowed at the blood bank. He said "You go to blood bank and I am giving them a call. they will give you blood before they take blood from your man. I ran to the blood bank and asked the lady on the counter about the blood. She said "OK, OK, everybody is in hurry. Can't you see I am working. be patience." I said "Our patient is very serious, Doctor told us to collect three units. Please give me at least one unit of blood now." She said "OK, can't you see I am writing the details. It is very important". I asked "Is patient life is also important or not?" She granted me an Unit of blood after a few minutes. I took the blood and ran back to the room #26. Doctor took blood from me and he started dripping to my father. We then felt some relief for some moments.
